Todd Oldham
"Home is no different from a gallery or museum. It's your own private fantasy art installation, to be used and enjoyed, looked at and touched, not just admired from afar." - designer Todd Oldham
Inspired Design Scientist
"It's a crazy fuse once that goes." Todd Oldham is talking about what happens when inspiration strikes. It certainly has struck the designer in many ways: he is a photographer, author and creator of celebrity fashions, hip recliners and fantastic furnishings. Now his book, Handmade Modern, has inspired a five-part HGTV series that is part DIY, part documentary and part primer on the heroes of mid-century modern design. With guests such as Amy Sedaris and Susan Sarandon, it also is a whole lotta fun. To find out more about Oldham's mass approach to grass roots, read on>

Practical Magic
A child's bedroom is a great place to add whimsy. Why not keep that summer garden feeling going inside as designer Linda Applewhite did in our Room of the Month? From its faux-painted walls and birdhouse bed to colorful window seat and Little Miss Muffet stools, the room is a magical and inviting fantasyland for a little girl. Its nooks and crannies provide plenty of space for practical storage as well as homes for mice (stuffed, of course) and books and toys of all sizes.

Design Defined The Look: Transitional
No, transitional style is not that mix of hand-me-downs and ready-to-assemble furniture often seen in first apartments before the "real" furniture is purchased. In the design world, transitional style is a marriage of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics equating to a classic, timeless design. Furniture lines are simple yet sophisticated featuring either straight lines or rounded profiles. Fabric can range from graphic patterns on overstuffed sofas to textured chenilles on sleek wood frames.
