grass·cloth n. a wallcovering created from natural reed, jute and arrowroot fibers that was introduced in France in the 18th century.
Three centuries after its first wave of popularity, grasscloth is back in, says designer Kenneth Brown: "It's about real texture versus fake texture," the host of reDesign says. "The heavy sponge painting that everybody did for a while—that fake texture—is out. It's being replaced by the real texture of soft wallcoverings."
